Artist I Love: Ceramicist Matthew Solomon

Magically strange.  Sinister pretty.  How do you describe these!?  Matthew Solomon‘s work is so captivating.  I first became acquainted with his work at Maison Gerard in NYC and again through a private collector in Washington, CT.

Mathew’s work is so intricate and the glazing is applied in an a precise organic way (there’s that contradiction again!). My personal favorites are the tall bud vases and the small, delicate tulip sculptures.

I’m proud to have Matthew as an exhibitor at the 26th annual Washington Antiques Show that I’m Chairing this October 5-7 in Washington Depot, CT.  Please come to the Show – Matthew and a wonderful roster of  gifted dealers will be participating.  I hope to see you there!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by design and the subtle impact of our surroundings. Some of my earliest influences still resonate – I think of the dark woods and textured lodens of my father’s shooting club, the smell of fresh paint on a new canvas, and the bold symmetry of the Philip Johnson Glass house just down the street. For me, it was a natural path to become an Interior Designer. I love what I do. I’ve created this Journal to share my thoughts, finds and design inspirations. I hope you enjoy it!
