Gorgeous Gardens: 5 Favorites

A private garden in Millbrook, New York that I saw on a garden tour. I love how this garden is organized and controlled. The millstone medallion in the grass is gorgeous.

About this time of year, I like to look at photos of my property taken in the summer. Not only does it remind me of how nice my property looks usually, without all the dirty snow piles, but it is reassuring to know that spring and warmer weather are just weeks away.

When we bought our house in Litchfield County eight years ago, I inherited a unique property of interesting plantings. It’s made me much more enthusiastic about gardening and learning about other gardens. Now, I understand Prince Charles’ obsession!

The same private garden again – which I describe as a masculine garden because they’ve used trees as the focal elements, rather than smaller scrubs and flowers. The contrast of the Birch tree with the Japanese Maple is wonderful against the lush green grass.

This is the garden at the Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, Italy. The garden overlooks the ocean and is breathtaking. I was struck by this detail – the trash receptacles. These baskets are all over the property. How pretty, all on their own!

I took this shot at Bunny Williams’ garden in Northwest Connecticut. Everywhere you turn, there is a flower or sculpture even nicer than before and all beautifully maintained. I loved it! She often opens her property for garden tours; it’s worth the trip!

A surprise Koi pond behind a stone wall. Another well organized garden – check out the bench at the end of the flagstone path aligned between the two Crabapple trees. This is a private residence in Southport, Connecticut that I toured last spring.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by design and the subtle impact of our surroundings. Some of my earliest influences still resonate – I think of the dark woods and textured lodens of my father’s shooting club, the smell of fresh paint on a new canvas, and the bold symmetry of the Philip Johnson Glass house just down the street. For me, it was a natural path to become an Interior Designer. I love what I do. I’ve created this Blog to share my thoughts, finds and design inspirations. I hope you enjoy it!
