Precious Stones and Metals at High Point

October 27, 2014 by Susan Bednar Long Leave a Comment

Each fall I look forward to visiting High Point. It’s a great place, of course, to shop for clients and see new products from my favorite vendors. But also you can’t help but notice what’s trending, and at last week’s showcase there seemed to be a running theme of precious metals and semi-precious stones. More precisely, gold, geodes, and crystals were everywhere.

As you probably know, I’m a big fan of metallics and high-gloss accents, so it was great to see so many bold and beautiful examples throughout the show. Gold and brass was on almost everything—from furniture and wallpaper to artwork and lighting. Kaleidoscopic geodes popped up as side tables and serving trays, while crystals accented a number of lamps, mirrors, and other decorative objects. There was a bit of shimmer in every vignette and I loved how the natural qualities of the metal and stones exuded warmth and luster. I am definitely going to incorporate some of these pieces into my current designs.

Here are a few of my favorite examples from the show:

Welcome!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by design and the subtle impact of our surroundings. Some of my earliest influences still resonate – I think of the dark woods and textured lodens of my father’s shooting club, the smell of fresh paint on a new canvas, and the bold symmetry of the Philip Johnson Glass house just down the street. For me, it was a natural path to become an Interior Designer. I love what I do. I’ve created this Blog to share my thoughts, finds and design inspirations. I hope you enjoy it!

Instagram post 2189442821005949565_321359045 Chateau de Villandry has probably the most celebrated gardens in France. Seeing this beautiful ornamental hedge garden in late fall is just as satisfying as the summer. The absence of flowers allows the shades of green in the hedges to shine. The surrounding foliage and vegetables in other gardens add lovely golden autumn colors to complete the experience. .
