NANTUCKET INTERIOR DESIGN
Seaside Sophistication: Nantucket Interior Design
Livable, fresh, and graphic, Susan’s interior designs draw on her deep appreciation for the heritage of Nantucket Island, developed from spending her summers in ‘Sconset. The relaxed, classic beachside interiors aesthetic reflects a respect for its East Coast historical roots and a modern interpretation of naval themes. Infusing a wide range of worldly knowledge, Susan envisions inviting seaside interiors.
Susan achieves modern sophistication while maintaining a livable atmosphere, skillfully referencing maritime themes without falling into clichés. Sophisticated color, crisp stripes, marine lacquered wood, nickel, American antiques, and navel inspired lighting are a few elements used in her interiors., Whether in a classic shingled style home or a luxury yacht, there is a harmonious balance between the timeless allure of Nantucket's history and the demands of modern living.
Adding a playful and contemporary touch to her projects, Susan introduces stripes as a key design element. One of her favorite details, it is the right blend of old and new. Referencing antique mattress ticking stripes, Susan uses muted blue and white striped fabrics in drapery and on soft furnishings. Bold striped area rugs and stairway runners are another favorite design detail. In addition, crisp contrast striped trim on window treatments adds a modern edge. The use of stripes reflects the design firm’s innovative approach to weaving historical themes into modern interiors.
She incorporates sophisticated paint colors referencing Nantucket Historical Commission guidelines and reinterpreting them in a modern context. This use of color, especially hues of blue and white paint elevate the interiors, giving them a vibrant and inviting atmosphere that resonates with the casual, coastal aesthetic.
Susan's interior designs are a testament to her ability to breathe new life into tradition, creating spaces that are simultaneously rooted in history and on the cutting edge of contemporary design.
