I’m no stranger to magazines, as many of my projects have been featured in editorials, but it’s usually my work that’s the center of attention. However, this month D Home magazine featured me as one of the Best Designers in Dallas, and this past Tuesday night they threw a wonderful party to give out the awards.
I feel so honored, particularly since I’ve only lived in Dallas a little over a year. Local showrooms are asked to vote and winners are chosen based on those results. I’ve been told it can sometimes takes years to be recognized for this award. There are some established and talented designers here, and it feels great to be in such good company.
The event, held at the Goss Michael Foundation (the gallery space founded by George Michael and his partner Kenny Goss) was a cool, clean backdrop for the chic crowd with its red carpet entry and eye-catching modern art, including Damien Hirst’s Saint Sebastian, Exquisite Pain. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with the other designers about upcoming projects and it was also nice to meet more of the D Home editorial team (and to thank them for putting on such a fun event!).
Here’s the cover of this month’s issue, along with the profile on S.B. Long Interiors:
And here are a few shots from the evening:
Getting the red-carpet treatment.
Standing with Laura Kostelny, D Home’s lovely executive editor.
Peggy Levinson, D Home’s editor at large; me; Susan O’Neal, D Home’s advertising director; Ashley Robertson from my firm.
Jessica Jones, D Home’s managing editor; me; and Margaux Anbouba, the magazine’s web editor.
I loved the variety of flowers used to decorate the party.
Early in the evening a photographer took a photo of me with Ashley and Kellie from my Dallas office in front of a green screen, then had fun digitally enhancing it like a grafitti artists.
If you happen to be in Dallas, make sure to pick up a copy of this month’s issue!
Congratulations, Sue. Love hearing about your accomplishments and am kept pretty well informed by your m-I-l. It will soon be Venice time!!! How exciting. Have fun. Regards, B.
