Style. Taste. Flair. Marina Open House, Saturday, April 2, 2011

On Saturday, April 2, Marina sailed into Mahanttan and special guests were invited to tour the ship for an Open House and enjoy a gala luncheon. As Frank Del Rio, the Chairman of the ship’s parent company Prestige Cruise Holdings says, “Oceania Cruises’ stunning new Marina is not just the first cruise ship tailored for epicurians, but also the first to embrace a residential aesthetic.”

The ship is a combination of design that is uniquely akin to a fine estate home. Oceania sought out top companies in the field of design to achieve this vision. For example, the iconic Grand Staircase was designed by Lalique and includes crystal medallions along an ornate double stairway. Fine fabrics from Kravet and Lee Jofa are used throughout the ship to convey a sophisticated elegance. And the Owner’s Suites onboard Marina designed by S.B. Long Interiors, Inc. are the first ever at sea to be completely appointed with furniture, fabrics, lighting and accessories from Ralph Lauren Home.

S.B. Long Interiors Inc. coordinated the design and installation of the Suites while the ship was being built in Genoa, Italy. Susan Bednar Long said, “Seeing Marina docked in NYC was so exciting – it was a fun project and so rewarding to now celebrate onboard with the team at Oceania and Ralph Lauren.”

Not only is the design of the Marina special, but the ship has six wonderful restaurants onboard, all overseen by the legendary Jacques Pépin, the ship’s Executive Culinary Director. Guests on Saturday were invited to attend a Gala Luncheon featuring dishes from each of Marina’s signature restaurants.

With its great design, fine food and even the famous Canyon Ranch Spa onboard, Marina is a wonderful choice for a relaxing, luxurious vacation with some of the best cruise itineraries around. Check it out!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by design and the subtle impact of our surroundings. Some of my earliest influences still resonate – I think of the dark woods and textured lodens of my father’s shooting club, the smell of fresh paint on a new canvas, and the bold symmetry of the Philip Johnson Glass house just down the street. For me, it was a natural path to become an Interior Designer. I love what I do. I’ve created this Journal to share my thoughts, finds and design inspirations. I hope you enjoy it!
