I wanted to share a very cool home that I recently visited in Fort Worth. It was designed by Morgan Bodie—my husband’s cousin—and the history of how the house came to be is quite interesting.
Morgan and my husband share an ancestor, the maritime industrialist John Roach (Morgan’s great, great, great grandfather). I’m proud to say that my son bears his name (it’s his great, great, great, great grandfather). Morgan also loves the sea, and his home celebrates both his passion for wreck diving and his interest in John Roach’s career as the first US maritime entrepreneur.
An avid diver, Morgan is committed to research and exploring the shipwrecks of his ancestor’s naval vessels along the East coast of the United States. Morgan has incorporated naval salvage items – lights, portholes, and bold plumbing fittings—into his home.
The home’s façade is made of riveted concrete slabs set in a modern grid. Inside, modern, dark stained concrete floors and mustard-colored walls contrast with the green and copper fittings. Exposed grey industrial ducting, dark stained bamboo railings, and mahogany support beams lend more maritime charm.
I found the space totally enthralling and it was a treat to explore. Here are some snapshots I took during our visit:
The master bath shower incorporates a mix of rich textures of worn pipes, burnished metal tiles, and black river stone tiles.
The tub is made of bamboo.

I left Morgan’s home feeling inspired. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
